Well, having said the umpteenth goodbye to friends and family, Kate, Caroline and I arrived bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at the Atlanta airport last night only to find that our flight had been canceled.
Our layover at London's Heathrow airport was the problem. Apparently, they're having the worst snow storm, and the ONLY snow, in 30 years. A few bold, red letters on the British Airways site upon online check-in, and some BBC headlines gave me an inkling that this might happen, but I'm blaming it all on the fact that we did not eat at the OK Cafe prior to departure. I'm not a superstitious person, but this sole superstition conveniently allows for a yummy meal.
We're going to the OK Cafe today.
On the positive side of things, we've all had a nice evening visiting with Kate's family and Caroline's mom, including a crash course on Welsh Springer Spaniel show dog qualities. Best luck to Mrs. Willingham and Tatum and to her friend and Spike on their trip and on their competition.
Also, for what it's worth, we now have a direct flight to Madrid, which will depart (god willing) this evening at 6:40. We're keeping our fingers crossed as much as possible while we busily re-book and reschedule other flights and reservations.
